Wedding Teaser vs Highlight Film vs Full Video: What’s the Difference?
February 19, 2026 · 6 min read
You have booked a videographer for your wedding, and the contract says “teaser + highlight film + traditional video.” But what does each of these actually mean? How are they different? Which ones do you actually need?
At WedHues, we produce all three formats for most of our clients. Here is an honest breakdown of what each delivers and why they matter.
The Wedding Teaser (The Spark)
What It Is
A 60-90 second micro-film — the first glimpse of your wedding visuals, delivered within 7-14 days of the wedding. Think of it as a movie trailer for your wedding day.
What It Includes
- The most emotionally charged moments — compressed into one minute
- Dramatic music (licensed cinematic track)
- Fast cuts, emotional peaks, visual highlights
- Optimised for social media sharing (Instagram Reels, WhatsApp, YouTube Shorts)
Why It Matters
The teaser is designed for immediate gratification. While the full film takes 3-4 months to produce, the teaser gives you something to share, rewatch, and cry over within two weeks. It is also the most-shared piece of wedding content — this is what goes viral in your family WhatsApp groups.
Production Process
Our editors review all footage, select the 10-15 most powerful moments, choose a music track that matches the emotion, and edit it into a tight, emotionally punchy short film. Colour grading is cinematic, transitions are smooth, and the pacing is designed to build to a climax.
The Cinematic Highlight Film (The Heartbeat)
What It Is
A 5-12 minute cinematic film that tells the complete story of your wedding day — from getting ready to the final dance. This is the centrepiece of your wedding videography.
What It Includes
- Getting ready sequences (both bride and groom)
- Key rituals — jaimala, pheras, sindoor, mangalsutra
- Emotional highlights — vidaai, father’s speech, first look
- Candid moments — laughter, tears, dance floor energy
- Couple portraits and cinematic B-roll
- Drone footage (if included in the package)
- Professional voice-over or vows (if recorded)
- Cinematic colour grading and sound design
Why It Matters
The highlight film is the one you will watch on every anniversary. It captures the full emotional arc of your wedding — the anticipation, the rituals, the celebrations, and the quiet moments — in a format that feels like a short film, not a home video.
Production Process
This takes 2-4 months. Our team reviews hours of footage, selects the story beats, arranges them in a narrative structure, adds music, colour grades every shot, and mixes the audio. The result is a film-quality production that looks and feels like a documentary.
The Traditional Full-Length Video
What It Is
A comprehensive, chronological recording of the entire wedding — every ritual, every speech, every event — from start to finish. Typically 2-6 hours long depending on the number of events.
What It Includes
- Every ritual documented in full — no cuts, no omissions
- Complete ceremony coverage (all pheras, all mantras)
- Full speeches and toasts
- Complete dance performances
- Family interactions and receiving line
- Basic editing — colour correction, audio levelling, chapter markers
Why It Matters
This is the one your parents and grandparents will watch repeatedly. They want to see every ritual, every guest, every moment — not a 5-minute artistic interpretation. The traditional video serves as a complete visual record of the event.
Production Process
Simpler editing — primarily assembly cuts with basic colour correction and audio cleanup. Delivered alongside the highlight film within 3-4 months.

Which Ones Do You Actually Need?
Our recommendation based on 300+ weddings:
- Must-have: Teaser + Highlight Film. These are the two you will actually rewatch and share.
- Strongly recommended: Traditional video, especially if your family is traditional or if the wedding includes significant religious rituals that should be preserved in full.
- Nice to have: Instagram Reels (3-4 short vertical clips optimised for social media) — great for sharing individual moments.
What About Instagram Reels?
Reels are a newer deliverable that we have added to our packages. These are 15-60 second vertical videos optimised for Instagram — individual moments like the jaimala, the couple’s entry, a dance performance, or a behind-the-scenes clip. They are the fastest way to share your wedding on social media and often get the most engagement.
The WedHues Approach
All our packages include a teaser, cinematic highlight film, and traditional coverage. We believe every couple deserves all three — the quick thrill, the artistic story, and the complete record.
